Oma's Gluhwein
Ingredients
- 1 bottle red wine (or 25 fl oz)
- 0.5 cup water
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 8 cloves
- 2 pods black cardamom (optional)
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 orange, sliced (optional)
- 3 cinnamon sticks
Steps
- Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan and gently heat over low, stirring until sugar dissolves. Avoid simmering or boiling.
- Reduce heat to very low, cover, and let the mixture steep for at least 1 hour without simmering or boiling.
- Strain out spices and fruit slices. Serve warm in mugs or heatproof glasses.
